里山こらぼでは、自然を活用した四季折々のツアーを開催しています。
今回は、2023年11月に実施したエコツアー「フィンランド風クリスマスリースづくり＠細田ラボ―里山を歩いて感じて探究するエコツアー―」の様子をご紹介します。
今回のツアーは11/23（木）、11/26（日）の２回、午前９時～１３時に実施し、のべ１３名のお客様にご参加いただきました。

Satoyama Korabo holds seasonal tours that make use of nature.
This time, we would like to introduce the eco-tour "Making a Finnish Christmas Wreath @ Hosoda Lab - Eco Tour to Walk and Feel the Satoyama" conducted in November 2023.
This tour was held twice on November 23 (Thursday) and November 26 (Sunday) from 9 a.m. ~ 13 o'clock, and a total of 13 guests participated.
クリスマスリースで環境保全活動⁉ -What are environmental conservation activities in Christmas wreath making?-
今回のエコツアーの会場は飯能市細田地区の細田ラボ。
土日祝日はバスがないため、飯能駅からスタッフの車で向かいました。
アイスブレイクの後、まずは参加者の皆様へこう問いかけます。
「今日はクリスマスリースを作ります。なぜでしょう？」
その問いかけを受け、参加者の表情に戸惑いの色が浮かびます。
「え？クリスマスが近いからじゃないの？」
「自然素材をたくさん使ったら素敵だからじゃない？」
もちろん、自然素材を使ってフィンランド風のクリスマスリースを作ろう！というのも今回のツアーの趣旨の一つなのですが…
実はこのエコツアー、参加者の皆様にも環境保全活動にご協力いただくことを目的としています。
どういうことか？
クリスマスリースの土台には、アケビやクズ、フジ等のツル性の植物を用います。
これらツル性の植物は木に絡みついて光を阻害、木を枯らせてしまうことから、別名「絞め殺しの木」とも呼ばれ、里山の厄介者でもあるのです。
昔は林業に従事する方々が木を守るために山に入ってツルを刈っていたことで、ツル性植物の数は一定以下に抑えられていました。
しかし現在は林業従事者の減少、高齢化が進んだことから里山の管理が追い付かなくなり、ツル性の植物がどんどんと増え、木が枯れてしまいます。
そして木が枯れると根を張るものがいなくなるため、土砂崩れの原因となります。
植物の問題と言えば外来種問題がクローズアップされがちですが、実は在来の植物も増えすぎれば里山の自然に害を与えてしまうのです。
そんなツル性の植物を刈り取り、ただ捨ててしまうだけではもったいないのでクリスマスリースとして有効活用する。
そして、楽しみながら環境問題について知っていただく。
これが、今回のエコツアーの趣旨なのでした。
The venue for this eco-tour is Hosoda Lab in the Hosoda district of Hanno City.
There are no buses on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, so I went from Hanno Station by the staff's car.
After the icebreaker, we will start by asking the participants:
"I'm going to make a Christmas wreath today, why?"
In response to this question, the expressions of the participants showed a color of bewilderment.
"What? Isn't it because Christmas is near?"
"Isn't it nice to use a lot of natural materials?"
Of course, make a Finnish Christmas wreath using natural materials! That's one of the purposes of this tour...
In fact, the purpose of this eco-tour is to encourage participants to cooperate in environmental conservation activities.
What does that mean?
For the base of the Christmas wreath, vine plants such as akebi, kudzu, and wisteria are used.
These vine plants are also known as "strangler trees" because they become entangled with trees and block light and cause trees to die, and they are also a nuisance in the satoyama.
In the past, people engaged in the forestry industry went into the mountains to cut vines to protect trees, so the number of vine plants was kept below a certain level.
However, due to the decrease in the number of forestry workers and the aging of the population, the management of satoyama cannot keep up, and the number of vine plants is increasing rapidly, and trees are dying.
And when the tree dies, there is nothing to take root, which causes landslides.
When it comes to plant problems, the problem of non-native species tends to be highlighted, but in fact, if the number of native plants increases too much, it will harm the nature of the satoyama.
It would be a waste to cut such vine plants and just throw them away, so we will make effective use of them as Christmas wreaths.
And while having fun, you can learn about environmental issues.
This was the purpose of this eco-tour.
シンプル、ナチュラル、オリジナル -Simple, Natural, and Original-
今回作るクリスマスリースはフィンランド風。
ではフィンランド風とは何か？と言いますと、3つの要素が挙げられます。
それが「シンプル」で「ナチュラル」で「オリジナル」であること。
そのため、今回のクリスマスリースづくりでは自分たちで集めた自然素材を使って飾りつけをします。
まずは木に巻き付いたツルを刈り取り、くるくると巻いて土台を作ります。
意外とこの過程が難しく、ツルが固かったり枯れていたりするとパキパキと折れてしまうことも。
巻き方は、長いツルを２,３周させてもよし、短いツルをたくさん編み込んでいってもよし。
どちらもとってもかわいく仕上がります♪
The Christmas wreath I will make this time is Finnish style.
So what is Finnish style? There are three elements.
It is "simple", "natural" and "original".
Therefore, in this Christmas wreath making, we will decorate it using natural materials that we have collected ourselves.
First, the vines wrapped around the tree are trimmed and rolled around to create a foundation.
This process is surprisingly difficult, and if the vine is hard or withered, it may snap and break.
As for how to wrap it, you can make two or three laps of long vines, or you can weave a lot of short vines.
Both are very cute ♪
次に、飾りつけに使う材料集め。
真っ赤な実がクリスマスにぴったりなビナンカズラや、クリスマスリース定番の松ぼっくり、そしてヒノキの葉っぱ等を拾い集めます。
Next, gather the materials to be used for decoration.
We collect honeysuckle, whose bright red berries are perfect for Christmas, pine cones, which are a standard Christmas wreath, and cypress leaves.
一通り集め終わった段階で細田ラボに戻り、本格的な飾りつけを開始。
集めてきた材料を編み込んだり、株式会社サカモト様から提供いただいた鉋くずをリボンのように巻きつけたりして、シンプルでナチュラルでオリジナルのクリスマスリースを作っていきました。
When I finished collecting everything, I returned to the Hosoda Lab and started decorating in earnest.
By weaving the materials we had collected and wrapping the scraps provided by Sakamoto Co., Ltd. like ribbons, we made a simple, natural, and original Christmas wreath.
参加者の皆様の表情は真剣そのもの。
中には、飾りつけに納得がいかずに一度全部飾りを取り外して作り直している方もいらっしゃいました。
飾りつけにボンドを使わず、編み込んだり巻きつけたりして固定しているため、やり直しが効きやすいのもフィンランド風クリスマスリースづくりの良いところです。
The expressions on the faces of the participants were serious.
Some of them were not satisfied with the decorations and removed all the decorations once and remade them.
The good thing about making a Finnish Christmas wreath is that it is easy to redo because it is fixed by braiding or wrapping it instead of using bond for decoration.
フィンランドのおやつを楽しもう！ -Let's enjoy a Finnish refreshments!-
小一時間ほど作業した後、おやつタイムにしました。
今回のメニューはグロギとコッコマッカラ。
グロギとは、フィンランドのクリスマスに欠かせない飲み物です。
イメージ的にはホットワインのような飲み物で、アルコール入りのものもあるようですが、今回はノンアルコール。
また材料も、フィンランドでは本来クロスグリという植物の実を使用しますが、今回はブドウで代用しています。
このグロギにお好みでレーズンやアーモンド、カルダモンを入れて飲みます。
スパイスが効いているため好みが分かれるかもしれませんが、屋外での作業で冷えた体にはその温かさとスパイスがありがたいものでした。
After working for about an hour, it was refreshment time.
The menu this time is glogi and kokko makkara.
Glogi is an indispensable drink for Christmas in Finland.
In terms of image, it is a drink like mulled wine, and it seems that there are also alcohol-containing drinks, but this time it is non-alcoholic.
In Finland, the fruit of a plant called black currant is originally used, but this time grapes are used instead.
Add raisins, almonds, and cardamom to this glogi if you like.
You may have different tastes because of the spices, but the warmth and spice were appreciated by the body that was chilled from working outdoors.
そしてコッコマッカラ。
コッコ＝焚き火、マッカラ＝ソーセージ。つまりは、焼きソーセージです。
フィンランド人はこのコッコマッカラが大好きで、焚き火があれば必ずコッコマッカラを楽しみます。
焚き火台の上で起こした火で各自ソーセージを炙り、自分のタイミングで食べていただきました。
And Kokko Makkara.
Kokko = bonfire, makkala = sausage. In other words, grilled sausages.
Finns love this kokkomakcalla and whenever there is a bonfire, they will definitely enjoy it.
Each person roasted sausages on a fire on the fire pit and ate them at their own timing.
参加者の声 -Participants' Voices-
グロギとコッコマッカラを楽しみ、自分で作ったクリスマスリースを手に記念撮影をして、今回のエコツアーは終了となりました。
We enjoyed glogi and kokko mackara, and took a commemorative photo with a Christmas wreath that we made ourselves, and this eco-tour came to an end.
後日、参加者の皆様にお送りしたアンケート結果の一部を以下の通り掲載します。
・普段、何気なく見ている植物の名前を知ることができた
・どんなものでも利活用できることを知った
・きれいだなあと眺めていたフジが山に悪影響を与えていることがショックだった。
・材料集め含めてそれぞれ個性のある作品を作ることができ、豊かな時間が過ごせた
満足度もアンケートにご協力いただいた全員から「大変満足」または「満足」の評価をいただくことができました。
またツアー終了後、作ったクリスマスリースをご自宅に飾った写真を送ってくださった方もいらっしゃいました。
At a later date, some of the results of the questionnaire sent to the participants will be posted as follows.
・ I was able to know the names of plants that I usually look at casually.
・ I learned that anything can be used.
・ I was shocked that Fuji, which I was looking at because it was beautiful, was having a negative impact on the mountain.
・ I was able to create a unique work of art, including collecting materials, and I was able to spend a rich time.
In terms of satisfaction, we were able to receive a rating of "very satisfied" or "satisfied" from all those who cooperated with the questionnaire.
After the tour, some people sent us photos of their Christmas wreaths that they had made and displayed them at home.
最後に -At last-
クリスマスリースづくりのエコツアーに参加したら、いつの間にか環境保全活動に寄与していた。
このことに、参加者の皆様は大変驚いておられました。
自然を守り、環境について考える中でまず大切なのは知ること。
今回のエコツアーでは、皆様に自然の中で何が起きているのか？なぜ起きているのか？をお伝えし、かつ駆除した植物を有効活用したクリスマスリースづくりを楽しんでいただくことができました。
里山こらぼでは、今後とも楽しく、そしてためになるツアーを開催してまいります。
I participated in an eco-tour to make Christmas wreaths, and before I knew it, I was contributing to environmental conservation activities.
The participants were very surprised by this.
The first important thing to know is to protect nature and think about the environment.
In this eco-tour, we will ask you to find out what is happening in nature. Why is it happening? We were able to enjoy making Christmas wreaths that make effective use of the exterminated plants.
